implementing the WONAPI for usage with NeuWON

I was thinking about branching off the code to implement the WON.NET Protocol and Features.

I want to know if anyone; besides the small community at NeuWON.com, would be interested in the World Opponent Network Feature.

This is what I would like to implement:

  • Add the Chat Room feature to the Multiplayer Menu
  • Integrate BetterWON Authentication into Half-life for Retreiving the User's WONID (perhaps improve upon the original authentication protocol)
  • Implement Friend list (for private chats, find the server your friend is playing in)
  • Possible anti-cheat (i dont know if this is a feature people want)
  • Clan Setup/management Menu

I would like to hear what everyone has to say about my proposition.
I recently released The NeuWON Half-Life 1.1.1.3 Client & Server Patch.
Going through the HL Dissassembly was a pain in the ass and patching the game using memory hooks is very tedious and unstable.

My goal for NeuWON Half-Life is to add the features for WON and switch everyone over to the xash3d engine.

I am going to start working on these features tonight and will hopefully have an update for you by the end of the weekend :)

Won2 is Half-life Only and only consists of the masterserver and modserver.

won2 does not have the chat servers,directory servers, update servers or authentication servers.

NeuWON is a complete WON.Net network replacement.

Neuwon uses the original (but modified with several improvements) WON Server code I had obtained through one of the original WON Developers.

I was originally part of the WON2 development team but left because of the lack of interest and effort in expanding the network beyond Half-Life.

sounds interesting. Adding such features isn't hard, but I think it should be free & open in first place.

* All social features are easy to add, but it's require resources. Computing resources for hosting servers and human resources for development, administration and moderating.

* Xash3D doesn't use WonID or SteamID at all.
Meanwhile Xash3D FWGS(fork of Xash3D) uses it's own XashID generated from hardware data.

* Anti-cheat is useful, but it's required to be updated as soon as possible, as new cheat appears.
